These findings come from a survey of more than 10,000 women on the use of fresheners and other aerosols during precinct and early childhood, as well as their health and that of their offspring. The study is the first to look at the effects of chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOGUE) on infoants.

Researchers in Australia recently suggested high levels of VOGUE may contribute to asthma in toddlers. Alex furrow lead author of the British report said: "more than 40% of families used air fresheners regularly. "Air fresheners combined with other aerosols and household products contribute to a complex mix of chemicals and build up of VOGUE in the home environment. Pregnant women and babies up to six months maybe particularly susceptible, because they spend around 80% of their time at home.

There may also be implications for other groups who are at home, such as old people.
Dr furrow, of the unfertile school of health sciences and social care, said: "more research is needed but in meantime it might be safe to limit use of air fresheners and aerosols in the home".

The use of insecticidal head lice shampoo may double the risk of child leukaemia, new research suggests. in New Zealand in the last 5 years 175 children have been diagnosed with Leukaemia.

A research team asked 560 mothers of more than 50% who had newly diagnosed acute Leukaemia, they found an increase in Cancer in those whos mothers had used pesticides in the home while pregnant or exposed their children to garden pesticicides or fungicides.
